Is it Rude, Is it Mean or is it Bullying?admin
Because so many people are so very sensitive to this subject, I feel that many and great many, including parents and teachers have swung the bullying pendulum way to far to the wrong side. There are many times in fact most times that a child says they are being bullied that they are not. In fact even when the parents get involved and say that bullying is taking place, it is not happening.
Because many people can’t tell the difference it is leading to children being overly sensitive about anything that is said to them that they don’t agree with or that doesn’t make them happy. They get this from their parents and teachers. It is sad say but so very true. We see these things weekly for example some child is rude or mean to another child and they don’t like it so they tattle or say they are being bullied. When we allow these things to happen we are enabling this type of behavior. Let’s educate not enable. By letting these things happen we also may not be able to see the kids that really need the help because of the one’s that are “crying wolf”. The kids who really need help are there and we need to pay attention to the signs real signs and signals.
This article does a good job of letting the reader know what is in fact Rude or Mean or Bullying. After you read the article please realize that even though the comment or behavior may be rude, or mean it is still that person’s right to express themselves. We don’t have to like it, we don’t even have to listen to them, but we have to respect their rights as individuals not to like someone. Also remember to teach you kids that rude people and mean people are going to always exist, it is part of life and we need tools to deal with them. The other sad fact is bullying and harassment will never go away either. Teach your kids to be strong, and give them tools to overcome and move forward.
